Article Guidelines

Our mission is to educate interested readers about all aspects of this rapidly emerging technology. 3D scanning offers significant benefits for virtually every type of industry when it comes to creating CAD files or inspection reports from physical objects that have been scanned.

3D Scanning Technologies is committed to providing information on new products, industry leaders, the latest scientific research and innovative case study applications. Our quarterly publication is dedicated to being the comprehensive resource about the following types of three dimensional scanning hardware and software:

DESCRIPTION: Feature articles vary from broad coverage of relevant technological issues to discussion of specific subjects such as system designs, novel applications, market trends, and product developments relating to the technologies that 3D Scanning Technologies covers. Our readers are primarily engineers and professionals who are knowledgeable about 3D scanning and imaging but are not specialists in all areas.

LENGTH: Manuscripts should not exceed the length agreed in advance with the soliciting editor. Feature articles are typically about 1500 to 2500 words. The manuscript should be informative, summarizing the basic facts and conclusions, and maintaining a coherence and unity of thought Redirects and suggested rewrites are done by staff editor(s). It is then sent out to the Editorial Advisory Board Members* for a technical review. Between the two parties, this process may take several drafts before complete. Final draft is submitted with any images and captions by targeted deadline. Once approved, any minor final editing is done by the staff editor(s).

Articles should not be blatant promotion for a particular company, service or product, although company case studies that detail a product/service/ technology success or failure are acceptable.

TEXT: Please supply electronic text files (such as MS Word) with NO EMBEDDED FORMATTING (examples include embedded footnotes and headers). Also Greek letters and symbols should be inserted using only "Symbol" font.

• Use appropriate headings throughout the text (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections).

• Number pages consecutively at the top right corner of the page.

• Indent new paragraphs and skip two lines between paragraphs.

• Use abbreviations only if they are previously spelled out in the text.

• Obtain appropriate consent for quotations of more than 50 words.

Please use a spell checker. Length should not exceed 2,500 words. A magazine page of text is typically 750 words with each illustration being roughly 200 words. Sidebars and references must be included in the page count. Use as little formatting as possible in the manuscript since it will be removed and revised to conform to our production requirements. Do not use a word processor’s "style sheets." Use line returns only at the end of paragraphs; not after every line. Do not indent at beginning of paragraphs, instead use a double linefeed between paragraphs.

Product/News/Literature Release Submission Guidelines
3D Scanning Technologies magazine invites readers to submit a brief (approximately 75 words), objective product introductions, company/product brochure descriptions, news items, industry events, training program information and company/employee happenings for publication in our magazine and on our website. Send release, along with an image via e-mail to news@3dscanningtechnoologies.com or 3D Scanning Technologies magazine, Attn: Products/News, PO Box 398, Montgomeryville, PA 18936

ART: Two to five pieces of art (photos, charts, and/or drawings), as agreed in advance with the soliciting editor, are an appropriate number. The best illustrations support points made in the text. Stock product shots will not be published. All illustrations must be supplied with captions in complete sentences.
· Resolution must be 300 dpi or greater

· Electronic files are preferred: tiff, eps, pdf or jpeg

· Drawings need not be camera-ready

· Size of images must be at least 2"

· Images for cover must be at least 8 " x 10" in size

· Charts/figures must be in a tiff, eps, pdf or jpeg format

·  Please do not embed art in Word or PowerPoint files; use the native file formats for the art

SUBMISSION: Submission materials should be made via email (as file attachments) to the editor at claudia@3dscanningtechnologies, or news@scanningtechnologies.  A complete submission should include the following:

· the full text (ideally both an electronic copy and a hardcopy printout via fax or mail)

· a 100-word summary

· a suggested headline using an active verb

· art and captions

· references, where appropriate

· biographical information, including full title and work address of the author(s) if applicable

DEADLINES: All material is due three months ahead of the scheduled publication date (e.g., December. 1 for March publication, and so forth). Necessary clearances or approvals should be obtained in advance of the due date.
